How I Got My Apogee Symphony MKI Working on macOS Tahoe 26.1

A few years ago, Apogee officially stopped supporting my Apogee Symphony I/O MK I audio interface. Thankfully, they’ve continued to respond to my occasional emails about it — they’re genuinely good people who just had to make a tough business decision.

After updating to macOS Tahoe 26.1, I found that the interface stopped working over USB Audio. For some reason, I could get audio in but not out. I was pretty bummed and tried everything I could think of to fix it. Eventually, a helpful note from Apogee support mentioned that they’d found better results using Thunderbolt instead of USB Audio, and suggested trying a Thunderbridge which I happen to own.

That turned out to be great advice. Yesterday, I tried setting it up but got stuck — I didn’t have a way to connect a Thunderbolt cable. Today, I remembered I actually own a USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter. I was relieved to find that once I plugged everything in and switched the Apogee to Symphony mode, both audio input and output were working again.

Huge thanks to Apogee for taking the time to test this, share that tip and helping me squeeze a bit more life out of this very expensive, end-of-life gear. Really appreciate it.
