Tracking Accountability in the New SF Mayor’s Office
On February 20, 2025, I reached out to the new San Francisco Mayor's Office to ask how I can monitor the progress of their initiatives. I recognize that it's an early-stage administration, and I certainly don’t expect major results right away, but establishing measurable goals and maintaining transparency with constituents seems like the best way to stay focused and accountable. After all, “You can’t manage what you don’t measure.” I haven’t heard back yet, but I plan to follow up and will share any updates if and when I receive a response.
Dear Mayor Lurie,
As a long-time resident of San Francisco, I have been closely observing the ongoing changes across our city. I voted for you and I appreciate the initiatives your administration has begun to implement to enhance safety, security, and overall quality of life, I find myself wondering how best to measure these improvements.
I frequently travel through areas such as 6th Street, Market Street, and the Tenderloin, and I have noticed that many of these neighborhoods still appear quite challenging. Obviously, I don’t expect change overnight. To better understand the tangible impact of your administration’s efforts, could you please advise if there is a dedicated dashboard or a set of statistics that residents can regularly monitor? Ideally, I am looking for a data-driven resource that ties the various initiatives and improvements directly to measurable outcomes across city services.
Your guidance would not only help me gauge the progress being made but also bolster community confidence in the positive changes underway. Thank you for your commitment to our city and for considering this request.
After several weeks without a response, I followed up again on March 10, 2025.
I was hoping someone from your office could direct me to a resource where I can track the performance of your initiatives. Could you let me know if there’s anything public-facing, if something is in the works, or if no such resource exists? I’d really appreciate a clear answer to this request. Thanks!
This time, I received an immediate automated reply to my email.
